Raindrops bring Rose Buds

You know how on my previous blog post (if you read it, and if you did, I love you to bits) I hit a bit of a low on how things can get a bit mundane and I was beginning to wonder what I was doing and why I was doing it  and what time the pub opens and all the meaning of life and that! Well, our 16year old grand daughter is staying with us for part of her holiday and  I was talking about it to her. Like most of the young generation she is cities ahead of me in computer savvy. Apparently the latest thing on the blogging scene is something called Tumblr - http://www.tumblr.com/explore  I'd never heard of it before. I had a browse through the site and have to say I really like what they've got to offer. I haven't signed up for anything yet, but it's worth a look. She did point out that only young people go on it and it's not for old grans like me! But if not - why not? What do you think?

  1. Not for me either. Why? It's too tightly controlled with regard to subject matter, and seems (from the outside) to pander to whatever media or fashion interest is top of the editor's agenda. No scope for tangents.

  2. Molly if it looks interesting to you why not give it a shot. I think I'm a little too random for it. Beautiful rose by the way...you must have a wonderful garden.

  3. Hi Molly, I have a Tumblr account but I don't use it much. I opened it when taking an on-line photo class and needed a place for a photo-journal. I think I had some trouble navigating around it so it's been laying there vacant like an abandoned farm for ages. I say check it out and get a feel for it. opening an account is easy. play around with it. if it isn't for you, you'll know after awhile. nothing ventured, nothing gained. I LOVE your rosebud. and the header image too! live out loud Molly!!!

  4. Go for it Molly. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Don't we learn so much from our grandchildren? My grandchildren are patient with me and seem to enjoy teaching me about the latest things on the computer. I used to know quite a bit, but technology moves along so quickly and it is hard for me to keep up.

  6. Personally I find blogger enough to cope with. It's all a question of time; there ain't enough of it! As Carole says, we hope you don't quit the mountain!

  7. Good to hear you have a new lease on blogging life. Try the new site out and let us all know how you do. As for me I think I have enough to cope with without anything new. Love the rosebud.

  8. It says :-
"The average Tumblr user creates 14 original posts each month, and reblogs 3."
I'm having trouble creating 14 blogs a momnth at the moment.
When I first started blogs, I did one every day for well over a year, but the were short, had few pictures and subjects were picked up from online newspapers. When I now look back they weren't very good. So to improve blogs I included more of my thoughts on subjects and added more pictures.
As Cro says this is all time consuming. So it is a balance between a daily 'blogette' or a good write-up once a week.
This Tumbir looks more like the former, but to be honest I didn't really understand what it was all about?
You know what they say (Blake?):-
    "Blog on, blog on,
    'Tis all in vain.
You throw the sand against the wind,
And the wind throws it back again!"

  9. Sorry that was a wee bit long. ;(
But that is what my early 'blogettes' looked like.
    ...more :(
    Cheers.....Bernard

  10. I don't see why you shouldn't. Actually, you might like Flickr better as they have a community of folks who post and comment on each others' pictures. You have so many good shots and you should share them with more people. ANyway, let us know how it goes if you sign up.

  11. After I read all your comments - Thank you, you're a great bunch and I think I'll stick with blogger. I read some of the articles on it and thought they were quite good, so perhaps I'll just have a browse there from time to time. Don't think I'm going to sign up for anything. Anyway I am loving keyboard conversations and they're too good to miss out on. Amy, I like Flikr, been on that for a while.

  12. Good to hear you will be sticking with Blogger Molly. I tend to think it is by far the best medium for sheer variety of content and interest. I agree with Tom. And Cro makes a good point too - it could be way too time consuming.

    Pretty rose!

  13. Followed the link, Molly.

Ended up clicking on the sharks button, 'cause I'm interested in sharks, followed the attached links and found myself looking at tattooed naked women - honestly, not my fault!

  14. It gives me a headache.
    All this regimenting!
I prefer to tootle along at my own sweet pace and do what I want.
I'd probably also be bored with lots of young people being frenetic.

  15. I have an award for you on my blog. Hop on over and pick it up.

  16. Jeanne - now I've had time to reflect - I agree Blogger is a lot more my style too.

Chris - I've just clicked on the shark's you tube (being nosey) - the one with everybody diving overboard and being swallowed by a big white whale imitation look-alike - ...... another good reason to stay with Blogger

    Friko - quite agree!

Delores - that's really sweet of you - will be over shortly

  17. My daughter (almost 24 years old) has a tumblr account and it's great! It's like twitter with more substance in many ways. I think young people like it because it's like FB but you can control who you invite more easily and have a little more control over who sees your thoughts. At least that is my take on it.

Go for it, just so you let us know so we can follow you there too!

    Kat :)
