Sweet Saturday

Looks like most of us had a good day, weather wise today.

When I did the jobs I had to do I went for a walk down to the mill and followed the stream back up to the house.

There's something just nice about almost total silence, me and my thoughts. I'm liking  that. You could hear a leaf crackle as you trod on it. Well not quite alone. My two cats, Fadger and Little Fadge never miss an opportunity to tag along and they were there exploring the undergrowth and enjoying the warmth for all they were worth.

Despite the warmth of the sunshine though, the wind was still keen. You could almost sense the arm wrestle between Winter and Spring right there.

I found this  tiny blue  wild flower growing amongst the debris and flotsam of brittle dead leaves. It's common enough and I should know the name of it, but can't think for the life of me what it is? Whatever - it's one of Nature's understated works of art. I've loved my life today.

  1. So pretty. I'm glad you had a day like that today!

The winter/spring air battle reminds me of this juniper I used to stand under every once in a while in the summer. I love the smell of junipers when they are hot because that sweet, piney aroma is so strong. But under that particular tree the breeze was actually cooler. Like a little chinook had had set into a permanent current, cutting through the summer heat.

    1. Amy I love the picture of a little chinook blowing cool air on a hot dusty day - I think for me, that was just what it was like x

  2. Lovely photos, Molly. I'm glad the sun shone for you after the weather we've been having. I'm now scratching my head trying to remember the name of your little blue flower.

  4. It must be lovely to have such an early Spring. I think we are a month ahead here this year. I saw signs of daffodils peeking out in my neighbors yard.

  5. Love that winter and spring are arm wrestling in your part of the world Molly. We had a hailstorm as I awoke this morning, followed by howling winds and then sunshine...all a bit psychotic! Still...I went out into my little garden and saw the first inkling of the hyacinths poking their heads up. Sure hope we don't get a hard freeze and sideline all this progress!

  6. Let's hope it lasts Molly. I can remember it snowing out here one Easter Day, and we can expect frost until the 'Ice Saints' are behind us (St Estelle May 11th. St Achille May 12th. and St Rolande May 13th.)

  7. Your walk with Fadger and Little Fadge sounds wonderful! I really enjoy the company of our two on walks, they run around, up and down trees, and they do it quietly!. I know we still have some bad weather to come, but isn't it a joy to see all those tiny signs of Spring.

    1. It is. The nicest thing about my cats is that they never seem to get tired of my company and however I feel they come along anyway.

  8. Wonderful that you had such a great, life-affirming stroll Molly. You're right, you can feel the change in the seasons as winter releases it's grip.

Is that your paddock over the road there Molly?

    1. No, that piece of ground belongs to the farm and barn conversion next door. The main of our ground is down the lane about 200 yards away from the house

  12. There are times when there is nothing better than solitude In nature. Finding that single flower amidst the brush has to be a good omen. I wish for you many more good days like that.

  13. Love the idea of winter and spring wrestling for ascendancy. And what unusual cats, coming for a walk - very nice, though.
