We were going to go to Bala Lake today but petrol at £1.41 per litre and the thought of being marooned at the pumps was a bit too much to contemplate. We didn't go, so a day at home. Been a fantastic day here all the same. Too hot to work out in the sun and catching up on my favourite blogs instead.
Went for a walk on my own down around the mill ground earlier on. You can't believe how everything's greening over even from one day to the next. It really is.
The silver birch we planted about five years has just grown way up. The place is getting too big for us to manage now. We ought to think about selling it, but where do we go? Don't know!
I followed the brook. I love the swishing sound it makes. There are brown lichen covered rounded cobbles and stones. They're a bit slippery when you cross to the other bank and you have to watch how you go.
I love wild flowers and they're everywhere just now.
The best things in life are free. They are! Just look at them.
There's the ploughed earth waiting for the potatoes and beans and onions to be planted.
And the stones from the mill building we intended to renovate. It won't get done now.
And some other mountain, way across there in the distance.
Did you do what you intended to today?
You did the right thing Molly. Why risk the herd at the forecourts when you live in such a lovely spot!
ReplyDeleteI intended to spend my enormous lottery win but alas someone else won yesterday. :-(
That's a bit sad you didn't win the lottie Chris. I didn't either.
DeleteYou made the right decision! I enjoyed the stroll with you, it is nice to take the time to really see things.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely part of the country you live in.
ReplyDeleteNice when the sun shines.
DeleteLovely pics - looks as if you enjoyed your day x
ReplyDeleteYes - it's been nice today. Hope you had a good day too.
DeleteI'd be by that brook almost every day. There's nothing like a little brook or an old dirt road. Thank you for the lovely walk, Molly.
ReplyDeleteI wish you were able to visit for real Amy.
DeleteLooks lovely and sounds like a really lovely walk, petrol is getting terrible here also and it is making life as a postal worker harder as I drive over 2 hours everyday and it costs the earth to fill up..I am so glad that Gods gifts are free at least that can't change lol
ReplyDeleteDo you get reimbursed for your petrol or does it eat a bit more out of your income? Everything seems to have gone through the roof here.
Deletethat barn photo is a cracker....
ReplyDeletewe have hunkered down too with bloody panic buying.....
I cleaned the duck house out!
Thanks John. We managed to get planning on it 12 years ago but ran out of energy so haven't done any more at it. I think a lot of people are weighing up whether to go out or not. Good when you get jobs done.
DeleteSometimes we overlook the beauty in our own backyard. Lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it sad when we can no longer cope easily and have to think of down-sizing? (horrible phrase) We are in the same situation although my garden itself is only 1/3 of an acre; but it needs a lot of work and I'm finding it quite difficult. still, with weather like we have at the moment, I can't bear the thought of leaving my green and friendly patch. We'll just have to struggle on.
ReplyDeleteFriko that's exactly how we feel. Perhaps when the time to move is right, we'll know anyway.
DeleteBeautiful Bala that served me up some wonderful fish & chips on my last visit. I remember it like yesterday & it was only twenty five years ago.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely walk down by the brook Molly. Thoughts of downsizing must play heavily on your mind, you have a lot of land there. It will all be worthwile come summer.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you can see more and more green with each day!
Have a lovely weekend.

A much better way to spend the day than driving for petrol. Oh my how addicted we are to it.
ReplyDeleteI spent the day pulling fabrics and furnishings for a new client of mine for her gorgeous new house. After seeing it, mine felt very plain, but I am content with it so that's OK.
Molly - I loved your walk. It all looks so green. How sad that you are thinking of moving to somewhere smaller. I know what that is like.
ReplyDeleteI spent the morning with WINZ completing all the forms necessary to get M's subsidy organised for the Rest Home. A bit cloudy here today.
It is always lovely taking a walk with you Moly.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean though about the work getting too much for you. I wonder how much longer I can handle all my gardens. This is the first year that I have begun to worry and dread some things that I know have to be done. This aging thing can be cruel.
The photo of the plowed soil is so pretty to me as I love to dig in the earth. I have been virtually manic today, washing, ironing, visited with friends, and cooked a wee supper.
ReplyDeleteI love Bala and nearby Vyrnwy; we used to go there often. My yesterday's task was to construct an outdoor run, and 2 dog kennel, for the boys. I shall finish it today!
ReplyDeleteYou have some lovely spots around where you live and you have captured them beautifully.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Looks like you chose the most beautiful spot to be anyway, Molly!! Gas is bad here too and it makes me think about going somewhere. Home is always our own little piece of Paradise!! P.S. Thank you for your good wishes!!
ReplyDeleteNot you Molly, or your PC. I have been getting things like this all day.
ReplyDeleteIt's either April 1st jokers or Big Brother checking out all our emails and web comments! It takes time for them to search for words like 'bombs'! Woops! That's done it. :(
Molly, you live in a =most beautiful area and I envy you your stream. I adore the sound of running water. We got to Scotland OK, but passed a lot of garages with queues for petrol or which were closed for lack of fuel. The weather was gorgeous for the journey, but it's now started to snow!
ReplyDeleteI think you made the right decision, you live in the sort of place that other folk would make a trip out to!
