Last Thursday we went on the Severn Valley Railway to Bewdley. Sixty years ago we used to go to school together on a train like this. The acrid smoke, the net luggage rack above our heads, the leather strap on the window. The emergency cord which you weren't supposed to touch ....... brought it all back ......
Felt as though I was on holiday
That looks great, Moll.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a holiday to me, Moll. The swans are lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe best kind. Love reading your blog posts.
DeleteLooks like a great day out Molly. Hope things are going well for you.
ReplyDeleteHello Sue - yes I'm fine. got lots of projects on. Hope that you and Doug are having nice days out too.
DeleteLooks like someone's got their ducks in a row :)
ReplyDeleteI like the old steam trains, but there doesn't seem to be any around here. I'd have to travel a bit to find one.
These are now run by a charity. It was good.
DeleteThat's a lovely feeling Molly. On holiday it was even if only for one day.
ReplyDeleteAnd hopefully more days to come.
DeleteIt is so nice to see you again on Blogger, Molly. It is good to read that you enjoying the company of an old friend and getting out and about.
ReplyDeleteAs a kid, I traveled by train always. It still is my favorite mode of transportation. I am also having staycations with only day trips that are not far away. I hate packing and unpacking and this fits me well now.
Hello Arleen. Enjoy your trips out and I agree who wants to spend time packing and unpacking xxx
DeleteWell, fancy that. I hadn't had a real holiday since Barbara passed on, but this year I too went up to the Severn Valley, but this time in my little motor-home and camped up with the Caravan Club at Hampton Loade. Bought a freedom-of-the -line ticket and spent all day enjoying rides to all the stations. The market in Bridgnorth was really good that day. Do you get to ride on the Welshpool & Llanfair railway? I have yet to try that one out.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Bernard
Hello Bernard. Great to hear from you. I went with my friend Marjorie for the day. Sounds like your holiday was just what you needed. We went on the train from Bridgenorth to Kiddeminster and then on the coach to Bewdley. I haven't been on the Llanfair Light Railway but used to pass it every day when I worked at the Llanfair GP Surgery.
