The Rose
I've not posted a lot lately
But the sun shone here today. Don't you feel so much better when the sun shines. I've got some rose buds out in the garden. Roses in January !!! How good is that!
Just been listening to Bette Midler singing 'The Rose'
And I found a little bit of information on Wikipedia here
I really love this song.
The lyrics were written by Amanda McBroom
' Some say love, it is a river
That drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love, it is a hunger
An endless aching need
I say love, it is a flower
And you, its only seed
It's the heart, afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It's the dream, afraid of waking
That never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul, afraid of dying
That never learns to live
When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed
That with the sun's love, in the spring
Becomes the rose'
I'm feeling in a bit of a pensive mood today.

The movie "Beaches" featured that song with her starring in it and we love the song and the movie. I had a couple of roses and tomatoes going here until it frosted a few days ago.
ReplyDeleteOlive, I'd love to see that film. I think she's a brilliant vocalist
DeleteI love that song. When she sings it seems to be ripped right out of her soul.
ReplyDeleteSorry you are feeling a little on the blue side Molly.... do you have any chocolate?
A big tin of Quality Street, but bravely resisting at the moment
DeleteNot sure I understand why, or how, or who...but you know you have my support...unconditionally...
ReplyDeleteJ, thank you. I love you too. I think quite a few of us have a touch of the January blues.. and then the sun comes out again
DeleteI love that song, and I also have a few rose buds on the bush outside my front door. Such weird weather for January, but it's supposed to dip down over the weekend, so I doubt my buds will make it to becoming full blooms. I hope yours do!
ReplyDeleteKat :)
It's supposed to get colder here towards the weekend too. Even though the rosebuds don't make it right through - it's so cheering to enjoy them just for a little while
DeleteLike most people, I love this song also. The words are so meaningful and touches the heart.
ReplyDeleteI know you are going through some difficult times now Molly, and we are all here to support you.
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed
That with the sun's love,in the spring
Becomes the rose'.
A handfull of roses for you Molly.
Arleen, thank you. After all that horrible weather you had last year - a handful of roses for 2012 for you too x
DeleteLove and hugs to you Molly.
ReplyDeleteV - thank you
DeleteAt present we are having winter at night (frosts), then summer through the day. So the garden bugs get their night time comeuppance, and we get our daily dose of Vit D. I hope it lasts. Bisou, Cro.
ReplyDeleteWe're forecast frost for tonight here too. I've sown a few things in the poly tunnel and have a tray of lettuce which have just germinated so hope the cold weather doesn't finish them off
DeletePensive, another good word..... Oh yes how we love the sun..I say I don't miss it but when it comes out your right I am happier! But....it sure shows me where I haven't dusted in eons! take care miss molly!
ReplyDeleteLinda, what's a bit of dust between friends, a few rays of sunshine are so welcome
DeleteIt's like a switch gets flicked on inside me when the sun shines. Like you Molly, I always feel so much better and get so much more done, even if I'm indoors.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if I have SAD sometimes.
Great lyrics.
Chris, I think we all get a touch of SAD in Jan. What d'you think about this reply button they've just come up with? I think it's quite good except mine keeps jamming. I think my PC's got a bit of SAD as well.
DeleteMolly if you love the song.. have a look at our village choir singing it

Have just been listening to the choir singing. The Rose' - it gave me goosebumps - it's so beautiful. John, Clive & Marion are celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary in the summer and are hoping to have a bit of a 'do' to which I've been invited. They live not to far from you so I'm hoping I might be able to meet up with you while I'm up there. That Norvirus sounds really ghastly so look after yourself and get better soon x
DeleteLovely song, and I'm also loving your header photo.
ReplyDeletenothing wrong with pensive Molly. roses in January - yes, how good is that?
ReplyDeleteI've always loved the lyrics to that song - they so beautifully express hope. thanks for sharing Molly. and happy day to you.
"That with the sun's love, in the spring
ReplyDeleteBecomes the rose."
This reminds me of a few lines from a poem I once read;
"The sun will sometimes melt a field of sorrow, that seemed hard frozen."
Roll on the warmth of the spring sunshine.
Lovely words Molly - no roses here sadly B has pruned them all back hard - but I do have snowdrops pushing through and the peony crowns are starting to shoot - I covered them with a paper bag last night because of the frost ! x
ReplyDeleteRorses in January...I'm sooo jealous! I'm not a fan of cold or snow so just looking at your rose makes me smile, Molly! Yes, the words and song of Bette's is fun to listen to today too!
ReplyDeleteMolly when I was here the other day I forgot to tell you how much I love that header photo. It's smashing!!! happy weekend to you.
