Redeemed By Love
A good friend of ours called by today. O/H has been having a bit of a time of it health-wise and our friend brought us two complementary tickets for the Onslow Park Vintage Rally on August Bank Holiday Weekend. I think as well, that he brought his pride and joy to show us. It's taken him three years of solid hard work to restore it from 'hedgerow condition' to this. A 1963 Morris Mini. I love the Mini.Used to have one in the 1970's. It's surprising how much room is inside. I once bought an armchair from a furniture auction and after a lot of fiddling and jiggling managed to load it up in the back of my Mini and cart it home in style.
He has tried to keep all the original fittings.
The engine is immaculate and he's even got the original tool set that came with it.
I love old things that are restored. The story of my life really, I suppose.

Sorry to hear that your O/H is not well, Molly, I hope he is soon restored to full fitness. I'll bet that cute little car delighted him though - what a beauty. Like you, I used to have one, way back in the 80's, when it was already an old car. I could fit all three children into the back seat, I absolutely loved it - but the kids kept growing! I'd forgotten that there was a bank holiday coming up soon, have a great time at the rally.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your good wishes Elaine. We both thought that his friend had done a brilliant restoration job.
DeleteSorry your OH is still having health problems, Molly. What a kind gesture by your friend and what a super job he's made of that Mini. My first car in 1973 was a minivan and I drove it for years. There's something addictive about doing up vintage cars.My brother-in-law is restoring an old MGB and finding such satisfaction in doing so.
ReplyDeleteThank you. These things come don't they. So sorry to hear your sad news about your friend - quite a hard week for you to get through.
DeleteThanks, Molly.
DeleteIt IS pretty....hope your OH is on the mend.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteAm loving the number plate
ReplyDeleteI think it's a Shropshire number plate - but it's pretty good.
DeleteIsn't it a beauty! Improving health wishes to O/H.
ReplyDeleteWe're hoping to go to the steam rally at the weekend and see it do its stuff.
DeleteWhat a work of art that Mini is. How kind of your friend to bring you the tickets. I just love the sign in the bus. My thoughts exactly.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Hello Sue. I liked the bus too. The picture was taken at last year's rally.
DeleteI bought a Mini van (ex Gas Board) for my wife, after she passed her test. It was so useful with small children dogs etc. Great cars.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I loved about my Mini was that even I, could park anywhere (parking is not one of my best accomplishments.)
DeleteThat number plate is exactly what my German, Mini-obsessed friend says when he sees a car which has been so lovingly restored - "Waw!"
ReplyDeleteOur friend showed us pictures of the restoration work he'd done bit by bit. It was in a very rough condition when he first acquired it.
DeleteThat is a beauty, Molly.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to have good, kind friends around who find a way to lift your spirit when times are difficult.
It is good to have friends. It did give our day a boost. Hoping to see it being paraded with all the others round the ring at the weekend.
DeleteYour friend did a great job restoring it. It'd be fun to drive around in, but I also have an image of John Cleese in Fawlty Towers driving in one just like that. He was always too long-legged, which I guess was the joke! Great car.
ReplyDeleteBtw, I hope your loved done is doing alright.
I love the Mini. I think that one would be my pride and joy too. Amy, thank you for your good wishes x
DeleteGorgeous car and happy memories for you too. Hope you enjoy the weekend.
