'Do You Read Me .........Over'

We had our 'Parish News' magazine the other day. Right in the middle of it was a two page  questionnaire with questions like ' Do you subscribe to 'Parish News', then you had to tick the appropriate box of either 'Always,' 'Sometimes' or 'Never.'  There was a two page list of bits of news, letters, articles, puzzles etc. which you had to tick accordingly. I used to submit the odd article a long time ago. Thankfully there was no mention of that. Wouldn't I have been gutted if they'd all ticked the 'never' box. I got to thinking about blogging and why we do it. Have you ever clicked on 'Next Blog' on the address bar at the top to see who's 'living next door'. There's a load who never have a comment between them and I feel quite sad about that. It's a lot of effort with no feedback. I never quite worked out how our blogging community came about, but I love reading your blog posts and what you've been up to, so thanks for that and for your company as well.
The other thing in my quiet little life is digging the weeds so here's my week -

We've had a couple of meals off our runner beans

Pulled some of the beetroot today too. We had bacon, beans and beetroot for dinner. Yum.

Cucumbers are ready. They taste good (no bitterness). The leaves are starting to show a bit of grey mould which is a pain, but nice while they last.

Tomatoes are fruiting. The early 'Shirleys' are starting to ripen so should be ready soon.

I dug up one of the parsnips to see what they're like - quite pleased with that one. Love them roasted.

This is a self setter marrow. The seeds just popped through where the old marrow plants had died last year. I transferred them to another part of the seed bed and 'Voila!' or something like that.

The cobs on the sweetcorn are starting to fill out. Should be ready next month. I love sweetcorn with lashings of butter. I've got one of those little microwave dishes where you can cook two in about eight minutes.

That rose is called 'Red Windsor'. I bought it from 'Woolies' when they were in business so it's been growing quite a long time.

Lilies are out. A bit disappointed because they don't seem to have the fragrance I was hoping. But love them anyway.

This is my mish-mash of a flower garden. It rained heavy today and the delphiniums have toppled over. They grew again from last year. A real bonus - the slugs usually polish them off.

Crocosmia, 'Lucifer' out in the side border. It's flowered early this year. The whole seasons seem to be moving on fast forward. It feels like early Autumn already.
Hope you're having a good life too.

  1. All your produce is looking great. I love reading about what you have been doing and seeing your garden. A plate of runner beans would be wonderful right now.

    Love your hollyhock as well.

    1. It's so hot here at the moment. My friend gave me the hollyhock seedlings in the spring. She'd grown them from her seeds, so pleased with them.

  4. How on earth would a person who doesn't read the Parish Mag get to tick never ? Unless of course they read it psychically.....

  5. Never too many veggies. And, you seem to have it covered. (I meant the selection, but I guess the hoop house, too.)

    1. I hate the tasteless shrink wrapped veggies in the supermarket. It's so nice to just take a kitchen knife and cut dinner straight out of the garden.

  6. I have occasionally clicked on 'Next Blog', but if they're dated more than a few months old, I ignore. Don't tell anyone, but I scrump my maize from my neighbour's fields; it saves me growing my own!

  7. What a fabulous garden you have Molly! I do love when plants reseed and I get "bonus"plants.

I sometimes click on next post and have found some I have enjoyed very much. It is always interesting looking at the interests of people around the world.

    1. It's very hot here at the moment. Fighting a losing battle with the weeds and lots of watering to do. I like looking at other people's sites

  8. Hello Molly. Your veggies are looking good after all the weather problems you had earlier in the year. The lilies are pretty. The downside is the pollen which stains if you brush up against the open flowers. The crocosmia is ahead of ours here.

    1. It feels as though everything's a month ahead. Early July and it's almost corn harvest time already.

  9. Beautiful garden, lush and green. I follow blogs that I have chosen from the blog I first followed, which was suggested to me, and then chose others from other blogs I was reading which all began with the 1st one. This means that when I read the blogs I follow, I recognize commenters names from other blogs. That is how I found you. So glad.

  10. It all looks great, I love beans fresh off the vine, they taste so much better than shop bought. I'm glad your lilies are way over there on the other side of the world though, I'm allergic to the pollen on those.

    1. I love lilies. My granddad used to grow them when I was little. Being allergic to the pollen doesn't sound very nice though,

  11. Your garden is looking fantastic, Molly, with the mild winter giving it an early start and now the warm weather ripening everything beautifully. I bet your beg taste wonderful.

I've only occasionally clicked on Next Blog as I've found almost all the blogs I follow either by clicking on comments on my blog or others, or by following other bloggers' recommendations. I think it's really important to reply to comments to build up a sense of community.

  12. Your veggies are looking really lush!
I've found most of the blogs I follow from comments on other people's blogs, but I've never looked at Next Blog. I shall just look now to see who your neighbour is!
