Time Slips Away




I've been to a funeral today. I'd known her for over 20 years. She was such a lovely lady - a real character, a zest for life. She was the same age as I am. There must have been around 400 people there, so they obviously all thought the same as me. I think that it was one of the most poignant, moving service I've attended and I'm so glad I went. At the end of it, the 'Sunset Poem' by Dylan Thomas was read out and the above song was played during the Commendation. When she was in hospital going through a dodgy time a couple of years ago her husband used to play it as he travelled to Stoke to see her. She got better. She was a walking miracle ..... everybody said. I saw her a couple of weeks ago in the supermarket.

RIP Dot - it was a privilege knowing you. You were a beautiful life.

    Sad that she seemed to have made it, but lost in the end. It's nice that you were able to see her for one last time before she went.

    Since I have just lost a dear friend as you have, I know the pain. Both of our friends lived lives that meant and touched others. This was shown by the large outpouring of affection at their funerals.

    In the end, all that matters is that we were kind and made a difference in others' lives.

    A lovely tribute to your friend. It was good that you saw her recently.

    I hadn't heard that lovely song before. A long time since I heard the Sunset Poem - I just played it by the City of Chester Male Voice Choir. It sounds like a wonderful service.

    Thank you for your lovely comments. Still trying to get my head round the fact that she died so suddenly after all that. I can still picture her in all the places I met her. People can touch your life a lot more than you can imagine.

    So sorry to hear of your friend's sudden death, molly. such a shock for everyone, especially after her previous recovery. Cro's right, here in Wales we really believe in paying our respects to people who've been part of our lives.
