The Flu from Hell

Tom over in Bath pointed out that the Welsh like to have a moan about everything. Now I could take exception to that except for the fact that he could well be right. We've experienced a bit of a flu epidemic round here the last few weeks. Not that we have one that often but what a conversation piece when you do. A friend of ours was a bit under the weather a couple of weeks ago. We called by to see him armed with a couple of bottles of Guinness and good wishes, mistakenly thinking we were well covered by the flu jab and now two weeks later we're both down with it as well. There's gratitude for you.
O/H thankfully did the food shopping today. The woman on the till asked where I was. He said I'd got the flu.
'There's a lot of it about .' she says and then went on to recall all the folks who'd gone down with it.
'Something going round,'
'It's a bad bogger this one.'
They spent 10 minutes comparing ailments while the queue backed up behind him
Good isn't it. You can reel off all the symptoms your getting, like those prizes on a conveyor belt they used to have on one of those game shows - toaster, electric food whisk, cuddly toy ...... snotty nose, achey limbs, rasping chest, hot sweats ........ all the things that nobody really wants to know about
Had to take Himself off to the docs last Thursday. He was prescribed a course of penicillin which bless his heart he offered to share with me today. Now you can't do that, because if you don't take the full course of antibiotics prescribed you're in dire trouble on the next lurgie attack, but the thought was there. Anyway they seemed to work cos he was jumping around like a spring lamb today. I couldn't have any strong meds because I'm having an x-ray on my spine on Monday which has been aggravating me a bit.
I do like a good moan, don't you?

  2. Oh no Molly you have caught a strain of influenza virus not covered by the vaccine. I would moan too. And a lot. Tom is fussy, you know that. Joe and I thought we would die, and just about wanted to, one Christmas when we had flu. We had had our flu shot as well. Drink lots of fluids. Antibiotics will not help unless you get a secondary bacterial infection which is possible. Flu can be quite dangerous so take care of your self.

    1. Poor old Tom, and just after his 62nd birthday and 1000th post an all - it was all a bit tongue in cheek. I do feel a bit rough today though, but hopefully it will soon pass.

    2. Small correction - 62nd year, not birthday. You're right about the rest, though.

  4. Oh Molly, you have me in stitches sometimes.......so sorry, to hear you've been unwell, hope you'll be doing Spring lamb impersonations soon too.

Sounds pretty miserable though and yes, what's the point of getting a flu jab after all that?

Well, I hope you are getting some lovely, fine weather to cheer things up a bit, it's grey and damp here today, perfect for a lie in with a cuppa....

  7. Molly, I had a good laugh at your description of the Game Show. I hope you are feeling better soon and that the X-ray goes well and the diagnosis isn't too nasty.

  8. Poor Molly. Illness is such a rotten swiz! Cuddly toy, penicillin, Kleenex, coffee maker, hot water bottle.....

  9. That's something you could have done without then Molly. Bloody Flu. I'll have to get the Vick out again. Prepare yourself! ;-)

    Good luck with your x-ray.x

  10. ...sympathy and good nursing (to follow on from Cro). Does your O/H make a good nurse? I hope you feel much better today.

Elderberry Rob, that's what you need. I'll post the recipe in August. It has been used for centuries - Boots the Chemist sells a very expensive version. Hedgerow harvest, follow the recipe and you will save a fortune and fight off the flu much more quickly.x

    1. We do tend to prop each other up a bit. A case of -'My turn, jump out and push!'

  11. good luck with your x-ray Molly. I did laugh at this post because an old horse dealer I knew years ago used to trade in Wales and he referred to it as "Landabovver" LOL
I think that was a nod to the proud, canny old mountain men.

  12. Do feel better! Awful to have the flu, especially in the Spring when you should be out enjoying the garden.

  13. Moaning, dear Molly, does help. I'm a big proponent of this method of getting through an illness.

I hope you are better soon, and if not, go get yourself some of that magic stuff your other half has. Good luck on your x-ray tomorrow.

  14. You sure are. Being sick is the pits, especially since you had such a rough time with the shot. Well, take care! Gets tons of sunlight and chicken soup.

  15. That's not a moan, Molly, it's a justifiable reaction to sheer bad luck. I do hope you feel better soon and that all goes well with your X-Ray tomorrow.

  18. Sorry you're under the weather Molly, I hope you're feeling a lot better soon.
I wouldn't call that a moan at all, more just relating the facts, and it was quite funny in places!

  21. oh Molly I hope you're feeling better. I had my own bout with the nasty bug several weeks back. I hadn't been sick in years so it hit me very hard. At first I thought I was going to die and then that's all I wanted to do! One good thing from it - I lost a few pounds. Always a silver lining I guess, but what a way to do it. I love your recounting of the grocery store conversation. It makes me laugh.
Hope the x-ray results are positive. sending you love and warm thoughts. happy day Molly.
