Knit one, drop one

Just over a year ago, when we thought that everything was back on an even keel, a routine blood test revealed that the cancer was on the rampage again.
I suppose that everyone  has their own way of dealing with bad news. I was (am) carer again big time. Blogging which I love, took a back seat and I dropped out of most things. When a wave like that hits you it's hard to talk to people. Then one day when I was in Welshpool, I called in the Severn Hospice Shop just above the town hall. There on a low shelf, was a basket full of wool. I haven't done any knitting for about thirty years and what I did do was a bit suspect. Anyway I bought both the basket and the wool.  I found it totally therapeutic. Well better than just biting my finger nails. It's good having a project.  I started with these.

I made this

and this

and this.

And now, 2016, I've done 14 squares - just another 58 to go. Things are going to be good this year.
If you called by and read my blog  (bless your little heart(s)) Happy New Year x

    1. I have. My daughter gave a a bag full of wool for my birthday in December. She said that she would love one of those squared throws for Christmas, but didn't think I'd have time to make it for this Christmas - I already had this one under construction, but didn't let on:) Thank you for your good wishes. Love reading your blog xx

  5. I like the one in the final picture, with the squares. It has a very cosy, cottagey, feel about it. Sorry to hear about your bad news; let's all hope for the best. Good to hear from you again. Cro x

  6. Those knitting needles must have been glowing red hot at times! My mother was a great knitter - whereas I more or less stalled at making a pot holder. Seeing that beautiful squared quilt now makes me think perhaps I could do a quilt - dolls cot size, for starters. All good wishes for 2016, Love, E xxx

    1. Thank you E. Actually I'm not that good at crafts, but this pattern was so easy - DK wool, size 8 needles. Cast on 33 stitches. Knit 3 Purl 3 until your square is 6" (15cm x 15 cms forms a pattern opposite to ribbing. I did 72 squares which with a fringe each end makes quite a decent sized throw. Gave it to my daughter for Christmas. She loved it and her hubs thought it wasn't bad. So well chuffed

  8. You could sell these, they're that good. My grandmother Doris, who wasn't really my grandmother by blood but more by presence, tried to sit us girls down to teach us how to crochet. She had a lot of stories about the Victorian era that I'm sure would have been the real treasure of those crochet lessons. I hope things go well, Miss Molly. It's not easy being in the 'carer' role. Make sure you carve out some relaxing time to yourself if you can. Much love to you and many prayers. xx Love, love, love.

  9. They are all so lovely, Molly. I have found that doing things with my hands helps with my anxiety when times are troubling. From being a caregiver too many times, I know what a difficult job that is. I pray that things will get better for you and your husband.

  10. Just popped over from Tom's blog. That basket of wool went a long way ! Lovely knitted things. I used to love knitting…just easy items, but since I had a puppy over 2 years ago I haven't done any, as he is nearly always on my knee! Happy New Year, and hope all goes well on the health issues for you and husband.

  11. I'm sorry to hear that things have been difficult Molly and I wondered why you had gone quiet on the blog. I've always appreciated your comments on mine. I tend to go quiet when there are difficulties especially over health and family problems so I understand. Knitting is a good way to deal with stress and I have several scarves in plain knit from such times to prove it! Your knitting looks lovely and practical too. Praying for the best outcome in your situation and every blessing to you, your husband and family.

  14. I had no idea Molly and had wondered why you were posting so little. I am so sorry!

Glad to hear though that you are coping so well and you certainly have been busy with the knitting. Even having one thing to focus on when times are tough (and we all have them) is an outlet and a great feeling that something has been achieved in a day. Blessings xx
