Things to do when the telly breaks down

Our flaming aerial snapped last week and we haven't had a TV since then. To be quite honest, I haven't really missed it that much. I found this on You Tube. It's a bit ancient - about the same age as my XP computer - but it makes me laugh. BTW,  I read on one of the news items that as from April 8th next year Microsoft are apparently no longer doing patches for XP and the hackers, rot their little cotton socks are saving all their nasty little bugs up for that date. I for one, happen to like XP. and as far as I'm concerned, Windows 8 is a geriatric's nightmare. We're not all dexterous techno mad fourteen year olds.  Does this mean I have to save up for a new computer with that dreaded thing on it come Spring. My computer is not and never will be the fastest thing on two gigabytes, but it works for me. I wish that somebody would just  listen to what their cash-strapped paying public really want?

Tom Jones looks a bit like Our John - what do you think? (Quite a bit older of course)

  1. When my computer becomes so outdated it won't function for the basic stuff I require...I will pitch it and do without.

    1. Bet you won't - trouble is we all have to have a blogging fix - life would not be worth living without being able to read your blogs, I know that for sure.

  2. I love my computer. I think windows 8 is a dud, though. I understand windows 7 is still widely available.
    Great Welsh video.

    1. I've been looking on line for a (legal) Windows 7 disc to up grade it. Trouble is I don't want to go and buy one and then find that my computer has not got enough oomph to run it after. Are you on Windows 7?

  3. Sandwiches! I loved that little vid - thanks, Moll. (P.S. Yesterday was St Barry's day, I believe).

    1. Scotch egg sandwiches? Glad you liked the video Tom. Yesterday was St Mick's Day but he won't mind sharing with St Barry. I think they all get on quite well up there.

  4. I know what you mean Molly, we have been TV free for 3.5 years and never miss it at all. I can't watch the "on demand" shows as my laptop doesn't seem to be powerful enough, but we can watch a DVD if we feel like it. Mostly we read, listen to an audio book, I sew and we just chat. I would never go back to having a TV again.
I think you need to put a photo of John up, so we can see this Tom Jones lookalike :-)

    1. What grieves me a bit is that they take £12 a month out of my bank account for the telly licence and then put a load of old rubbish on it. I was thinking of Our John the Dogs up in Trelawnyd. Have a look at that pic of him asleep with Meggy Terrier?

  7. Sorry to hear about your aerial, but it's always good to experience life without TV for a while. :-) We don't have it at all in France and in Scotland we just use an old set to watch DVDs (no aerial or dish), but I do enjoy watching selectively here in Wales.

My old XP desktop has been retired since I got my Windows 7 laptop 18 months ago. I still miss the simplicity of XP, but Windows 7 isn't so very different, not like Windows 8.

    1. I was going to buy a Windows 7 disc off the internet. It said that it was fully legal and was supplied with a licence number etc. Then I read the reviews - one said that despite contacting or trying to on numerous occasions, he didn't receive his licence number as promised and another said - Beware of this seller - he is selling illegal copies. I think I'll carry on with XP until the spring at least.
