The Smallholders & Gardeners Steam Waggon

Went  to the Smallholders & Gardeners show at Builth Wells, Saturday. It's about an hour's drive away from where we live. The weather was a bit cold and overcast but it was a good day out.

Saw the veggie displays and the flowers in the horticultural tent

The llamas and alpaccas

Big black bull. I sort of got in the way a bit when they were coming out on to the field. Busy taking my pics when out of the corner of my eye I spotted this one charging up the rear. Just in time for a quick exit. Phew!

The Jersey cow and her little calf were so gorgeous.

The bowler hatters were making apple juice through an old apple press. There was a notice saying you could help yourself to free drinks - to be consumed at  own risk. Having just almost recovered from the rest of my ailments I passed on that one. A bout of the squits would be the icing on the cake!

The baby foal was soooo cute

And all those colourful tractor seats.

And hand ploughs.

There was a man making wooden bowls and things on a home made lathe.

And buggy racing in the arena.

Just when I could do with it - the Welsh Wrinklies Rebuild Team. Wonder how much they charge?

  1. The tractor seats are so colorful and pretty Molly. The veggies are great too and arranged in a very serious manner indeed.

  4. And a good turn-out! We had a similar (somewhat smaller) show in our village yesterday too (do have a look at my blog). I could use that hand plough!

  5. It all looks wonderful - I would have loved to have been there. I have surprised myself at how fascinating I find that home made wooden lathe - it is beautiful. George will be studying that photograph very closely.

    1. I think it's called a pole lathe. It was quite amazing all the bowls and things he made with it.

  7. You obviously had a great day, Molly, despite the weather. I've been to the Royal Welsh Show at Builth, but never to the Smallholders and Gardeners, an omission I must repair sometime.

  8. Good choice avoiding that drink! This whole thing looks like a lot of fun. I can't wait for our county fair in August.

  10. Molly, you lead a most interesting life I tell you. That you were out and about must mean that you're all recovered from the flu from Hell. I want that baby foal. (now what would I do with that?) This event seems similar to our county fairs - on the smaller side but much nicer than our state fairs which are crowded and very noisy with bad food. Wise taking measures to avoid a case of the squits! you crack me up.
    Happy week to you Molly.

  11. Molly, that looks like so much fun. We have something similar here in Suffolk but alas without any spectacular mountain views!

    Glad you're feeling better.
