Little Bugs

Iridescent Dance Fly on Solomon's Seal

Rhubarb Beetle
Have you ever stopped to watch the tiniest of insects buzzing from plant to plant? They are so amazing. The diversity of colours is breath taking. They have a purpose on this planet.
Please don't poison them with sprays.

  1. I have a lot of white fly that I would dearly like to poison!! But I won't.

    Why the move?

  2. Cro Thanks so much for your comment. Someone hijacked my site, copied chunks of my work and posted on their crumby site. I have no and neither do I want any connection with them whatsoever. I'm not very computer literate and the only way I could think of was to start again. You, Sue, Amy, Linda, Carole, J, Chania, Tom and all the other lovely folks who dropped by on my old site are very dear to me. Thanks for being number one. Have a brilliant time with your grandchidren.

  7. Hi Molly...love the new blog here, sorry you had some trouble with the other one.
such a dilemna about bugs in the garden...I'm with you though... no sprays
of any kind in my garden...I heard they have some kind of sticky tapes that you can hang to catch all those white flies, Cro. Never used them, but they sound good.

  8. Living in wine country, fruit flies are our pests, so we set out a glass container with an inch or so of wine in it, covered with plastic wrap with a few pin-holes in it. Very soon the fruit flies find the wine and come to an untimely, drunken end. Not so very bad!

  9. Sue - so glad you found the new site.

    V & J thank you for following.
V - I have used those sticky traps in the poly tunnel before now. They are good but I set mine a bit low and you know what it's like when you bend down picking stuff and suddenly straighten up - more than once I've ended up with a sticky trap attached to my hair (not nice:(

J - that's a brilliant idea of putting wine in glass jars to combat the fruit flies. (What a nice way to go :0)

  11. Hello Carole - glad you found me - a bit of a long story! It takes ages building it all up again but no worries! Love your Bella bike blog x

  12. How awful that someone would do that to you—stealing your photos and all. I can see why they'd want to, they're absolutely gorgeous, but still . . . it makes me mad! It seems like more and more I hear about these hackers, on Facebook and Google. What a crazy, messed-up world we live in!

And good for you to be so smart with shutting the old one down. Take Care xxxx

  13. Amy - I'm so glad I didn't lose you. These things happen, like you say. Life's one big learning curve but it's OK if it makes you a bit smarter and a bit more cautious in the process xx

  14. Hi Molly, found you.
I have just edited all my links to your new URL.
I hope others remember to do this as their blog lists will still link to the old site. I don't know if you realise, you can back-up your 'old' blog to your hard drive and the restore it to your new blog site. I download my blogs to my H/D every month in-case 'blogger' loses them.
    Take care, Bernard

  15. Hi Molly

So sorry about your recent blogging woes...some people!

On the upside it's meant I've found your blog which I will now read with interest.

I've had some very exotic looking bugs and critters on my allotments but have always just fed them straight to the chickens hehe. Next time I'll take a snap first.

    Chris

  17. Bernard - thanks. I've saved old Molly to my HD but she's getting a bit long in the tooth, so will leave her there for the time being. I'm glad you found my new site. How do I put this new one so that my loved ones can find it without having to go through my profile first?

  18. Chris - Thank you for for dropping by - I like your blog too!

  20. Well Molly, I generally don't bother the bugs. That is, until they get too close to thefeatherednests front door, then, its war. Right now there are ants galore just outside the side door and all along the drive. I think we were built on an ant hill.

  21. mbj - we've got a lot of ants too. I was renewing one of the flower troughs with bedding plants, when I suddenly discovered it was snive-ing with them. I just chucked some compost on them and hoped for the best!

  22. I never spray, but I do swat. Because of all the rain we have had this year, we have been inundated with knats and no-see-ums. These are the ones that are very tiny, move like lightning and bite you constantly. You don't see them, but they see you. They seem to like old meat, meaning me.

  23. Hi Molly,
I logged on as a follower of your new blog but this post did not come up in my blog list. Must have done something wrong as I am always a few steps behind in computer world. I will work on it or ask some help from my 10 year old granddaughter. Meanwhile, I will just log in manually.

  24. Starting over - I'm sure it's not anything you've done. I have not worked out as yet how to put this blog upfront without going through the profile thingy first. I tried saving my old blog to my HD and then deleting it but then this one disappeared as well so had to re-instate it back again. I'll have to ask my son - he's a lot more computer savvy than I am - really sorry for the nuisance. Thank you so much for bearing with me, will try to suss it as soon.
